The Republic Day of India is a national holiday that commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. It is celebrated with great pomp and show across the country, with the main event being the grand parade at Rajpath in New Delhi.

India has achieved many remarkable feats in various fields of science, technology, economy, and social development. Some of the notable examples are:

  • Space mission: India has a well-established space program that has launched several satellites, probes, and rockets for various purposes. India is the first country to successfully launch a spacecraft to Mars in its maiden attempt, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) or Mangalyaan, in 2014.   • Healthcare: India has made significant progress in improving the health and well-being of its population, especially in reducing child mortality, maternal mortality, and infectious diseases. India has eliminated polio, yaws, and maternal and neonatal tetanus, and is on track to eliminate tuberculosis, leprosy, and malaria by 2025. India is also a major producer and exporter of vaccines, supplying about 60% of the global demand. India is also a pioneer in medical tourism, offering high-quality and affordable healthcare services to patients from around the world.
  • Manufacturing: India is a hub of manufacturing, especially in the sectors of automobiles, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. India is the fifth-largest manufacturer of automobiles in the world, producing over 26 million vehicles in 2019. India is also the second-largest producer of textiles and garments in the world, employing over 45 million people and contributing 15% of the country’s export earnings. India is the third-largest producer of pharmaceuticals in the world, accounting for 20% of the global generic drug market. India is also the second-largest producer of mobile phones in the world, with over 268 million units manufactured in 2019.
  • Industry: India has a diverse and vibrant industrial sector, ranging from traditional industries like handicrafts, pottery, and leather, to modern industries like software, biotechnology, and aerospace. India is the world’s largest producer of milk, jute, and spices, and the second-largest producer of tea, sugar, and cotton. India is also the world’s largest exporter of software services, with revenues of $147 billion in 2019-20. India is also a leader in biotechnology, with over 3,000 companies and a market size of $64 billion in 2019-20. India is also an emerging player in aerospace, with the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) being the largest aerospace company in Asia.
